Last Minute Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

Mother’s Day is fast approaching and amongst all the other craziness going on in the month of May you may find yourself short on time to find that perfect gift for mom. Have no fear, I have a few creative ideas for you!

Shareable Journal –

    • Grab a cute journal, or blank cover journal with a pack of colorful pens. Now is when your creativity kicks in. If the front cover is blank and can be drawn on, design a cover that says, ‘Mom & Daughter (or Son) Journal’. If not on the front cover, then do this on the first page. On the next page – write mom a note explaining that this journal is to be passed back and forth. On the page following that you will write your first question. Write ‘Mom’ under the question and let her have the first half of the page or whole page depending on how long you think her answer will be. On the other half or next page, write your name or ‘daughter’. This is where it gets fun! I filled my mom’s journal with some silly questions and some sentimental ones. Place the colorful pens and journal in a cute bag to give to her. My mom loved this, and we have truly enjoyed passing our journal back and forth.

Here is a suggestion of what you can write on the introduction page of your journal:

“Hi Mom! I wanted to give you more than a normal gift this year. I wanted to share a journal with you! Please answer the questions or journal prompts under your section in the journal and return it back to me so I can answer the same question under my section. We will pass this back and forth and I am sure we will have some tears and lots of laughter.  I can’t wait to share this with you! Love, your daughter”

Here are a few ideas of journal prompts or questions to add: (Don’t be afraid to create your own questions or prompts, you know your mother best!)

  1. Share one of your most favorite memories.
  2. How many guys did you date? Let’s compare.
  3. Share your favorite Christmas memory.
  4. Would you have chosen the same career path, or chosen something completely different?
  5. What did you want to be when you grew up?
  6. Tell about the scariest thing that has happened to you.
  7. Share the most embarrassing moment of your life so far.
  8. Are you the kiss and tell type or prefer to keep it to yourself?
  9. What is your favorite phrase or word to say?
  10. If you could visit one place you have never been where would you go?
  11. If you won the lottery what would be the first thing you did?
  12. What is the weirdest food combination that you enjoy most?
  13. What is the worst decision you have ever made?
  14. What if your favorite memory that you shared with your mom?
  15. What are the top 5 things on your bucket list?

*Side Note: Not only did I create a journal for my mother and myself, but I also included my daughter. We have three generations sharing and I know it will be a treasure forever!

Photo Collage –

    • Scroll through the gallery on your phone and make mom a collage! (Yes, I know, not a new idea but have fun with it and do not allow it to be boring. LOL) I don’t know a mother who wouldn’t love photos of their children no matter the age. You can even do a quick selfie photo shoot with you and your siblings or spouse and kids. If you need it fast, print it on your home computer or have it printed by your local drugstore that still offers one-hour photos. Place your collage in a cute frame and an adorable gift bag and mom will be in love!

*You can use Canva.com to create your collage or there are a ton of photo collage apps available if you search for them!

    • Coupons to help mom out are the absolute best! I as a mother LOVE to receive coupons from my children and husband. Origami Fortune Teller for Mom –

I am sure you are wondering how one of these can become a gift for mom, or you could be wondering what I am talking about. Remember when you were younger, well maybe you don’t, but those of us that grew up in the ’80s do. (Yep, I aged myself and I am cool with that.) Those amazing origami fortune tellers? Also known as a ‘Chatterbox’. You would fold them carefully from your notebook paper and write things like ‘yes’, ‘no’, maybe’; and then spell your boy crush name as you moved your fingers back and forth. Remember the anticipation of which tab you pulled up and how you hoped it would say ‘YES’! Okay, so let’s revise the reason for these cute little origami creations and have them become a fun way for your mom to know how much she is loved! (I will soon offer these to spread joy, share bible verses, or give encouragement. Keep checking back for those!) Like the coupons mentioned, here is a link to print or edit a Fortune Teller of your own! If you cannot remember how to fold one of these please look up a video for ‘How to Fold an Origami Fortune Teller’ and it will guide you. I have looked this up and there are a ton of videos on this. Find the one you can follow best. Remember that you will need to cut the paper after printing to make the square. Once you have a square you can begin folding at this point. If the printable is not your thing, then use this idea and grab some notebook or colorful paper and make it just like you did as a child. Give this as moms card, add some money, or add this to the gift you have already. She can pick it up at any time and know how much she is loved!

Happy Mother’s Day!
