My Walk-Through Process – In Hopes to Change My Organizational Downfalls

This process was horrible. Talk about an eye-opening experience. I thought I had some organization to my chaos but after my initial walk-through of my home, I was so wrong. I set a timer since I have a tendency to get sidetracked. Which is part of the problem to keeping my house clutter free. You know, a family lives here. Not a minute passes that I do not get interrupted from a kid, an animal or a husband. So yes, many items get left abandoned where they are. It is not a one-person issue in this house, or in most homes. It is a combination from ALL of those that live within the walls. We are all guilty of not putting items back were they go. (Something we are all working on this year.) Comment below if you completely understand this! YOU are NOT A-L-O-N-E my friend!

Tips for Your Walk-Through
  • Here is your FREE printout. (You may need to create a Canva account to use this but no worries, choose the free plan and do it. It is worth it, I promise!)
  • Begin this when you are by yourself. If that time is non-existent, then choose the rooms that are unoccupied and shut the door, if you can. Set your timer for 5 minutes and start filling out your printout. No hesitations, just write, this is the time when you are most honest with yourself.
  • I stood at the door and focused on the Immediate Dislikes of the space. In some rooms it took all 5 minutes for my dislikes. EEEK!
  • Next, focus on your likes. Even if it is the color on the wall, write it down. I know that has nothing to do with organization. However, we all know that the color alone can sometimes disrupt the peace of a room.
  • If you still have a minute or two out of your 5 minutes, then start writing what needs to change. If your timer is up, no worries, this part can be done towards the end of your entire house assessment.
  • You choose when to fill out the last two boxes, ‘What Needs to Change’ and ‘Plan’. I found that I did better filling these out after I had finished the whole walk-through. You may be different and that is okay!
  • Finish each room and clip these bad boys together. Keep them on your fridge, posted to your bathroom mirror, or wherever they will be seen each day. This will keep your goal at the forefront and make you more accountable.

I hope this helps you through the process. I know how I am. If I had written my plan in a notebook or on a notepad, it would have been easily put into a drawer, swiped for someone’s homework, or thrown out. That is why I chose to use a printable. I keep mine hanging on my bulletin board at my desk. I know you can do this. So, get to printing and do that walk through!!
